An ongoing semi-annotated bibliography of miscellania (that would drive Turabian nuts):
Dowsing:
- Letter to Robin & the Companion Letter to Robin by Walter Woods – two great introductory guides to dowsing.
- Dowsing: A Path to Enlightenment by Joey Korn – both a pragmatic and spiritual approach to dowsing, including interesting connections to Kabbalah.
- Spiritual Dowsing by Sig Lonegren – an informative discussion of dowsing with regard to tools, Earth energies, and healing.
Fiction:
- The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran – a must read. Gibran is the third-bestselling poet in history after Shakespeare and Laozi.
- The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho – a charming fable that inspires readers to follow their dreams.
Healing/Chakras/Shamanism/etc.:
- Shaman Healer Sage by Alberto Villoldo – a classically trained medical anthropologist, Villoldo has studied shamanic healing techniques with the descendents of the ancient Incas for over two decades. This book weaves traditional healing methods with modern Western mentality to create a practical program for healing and preventing future illness in ourselves and others.
- The Freedom Path by Robert E. Detzler – think of yourself as a computer with all sorts of programs running – programs that might be hindering you physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. This book contains case studies and instructions on pendulum dowsing so you can clear these blocks and traumatic experiences from this life, past lives, parallel lives, and more using Spiritual Response Therapy (SRT).
- Wheels of Light by Rosalyn L. Bruyere – this is an easy to read introduction to the chakras and the healing potential of the chakra system. Special attention is paid to the first chakra, dealing with our basic life force, and Bruyere draws on both science, as well as traditional cultures from East and West.
History/Religion:
- When God Was a Woman by Merlin Stone – a work some would catagorize as “feminist scholarship”, Stone presents a compelling argument and an archeologically documented second look at the Old Testament and the decline of women’s status in ancient cultures.
- The Chalice & the Blade by Riane Eisler – this describes the transition when the matriarchal, agrarian, and peace-loving society that worshipped the Goddess was dominated by the patriarchal, sky-deity-worshipping warrior nomads from the East. Perhaps a bit idyllic, but Eisler makes an excellent case for balance and honoring both genders.
Minerals:
- The Book of Stones by Naisha Ahsian & Robert Simmons – this is an in-depth guide to assist in identifying and understanding the subtle energies of minerals. (Also check our Naisha’s article How and Why Stones and Crystals Work).
- The Crystal Bible by Judy Hall – a quick-reference guide with a great index that cross-references stones and attributes.
Mythology:
- The Sacred & the Profane by Mircea Eliade – although sometimes criticized for over-generalization, Eliade is still noted as an influential contemporary historian of religion.
- The Power of Myth by Joseph Campbell – Campbell is an icon in the field of comparative mythology and religion. His video series are also wonderful, and you will never think of Star Wars the same again after learning about the universal truths inherent in the hero’s journey.
Other:
- Ethics for the New Millenium by the Dalai Lama – a non-dogmatic and beautifully written discussion on cultivating love and compassion as individuals and as a society as a whole.
- Sacred Britian Tours has some fascinating research articles on crop circles, Earth energy lines, male/female effects on nature, and the sacred sites of Britain. Also – Glen Broughton puts together tours of sacred sites for those interested.
